Sr. Director, AI and Machine Learning at Nike Digital Innovation
A veteran of both start-ups and Fortune 50 companies, Shane has led new product creation in gaming, wearable tech, and enterprise software. During his more than 15 year career, his products have been highly awarded, and recognized for their leading edge innovation, including pioneering use of AI and machine learning. Today, he serves as Sr. Global Director for Nike’s Digital Innovation group, where his teams work on problems at the intersection of sports and technology. He also serves as an Executive in Residence at the sports technology venture fund Relentless Pursuit Partners, founded by Olympic gold medalist and Canadian Sports Hall of Fame Inductee Simon Whitfield, and venture capitalist Brenda Irwin.
Previously, Shane led teams at EA Sports, where he worked on several AAA titles, before assuming a leadership role in developing EA’s next generation online platform, which today boasts more than 150 million users. He later developed several wearable technology products, including the Nike FuelBand, and culminating in the launch of Recon Jet, the world’s first wearable heads up display for sports. Recon Instruments, where Shane served as Chief Product Officer, was acquired by Intel in 2015 for $170 million. Shane then founded the Artificial Intelligence start up BlueMesh, which is an enterprise collaboration platform that uses advanced machine intelligence to enable better collaboration in large organizations. BlueMesh was acquired by a private equity consortium earlier this year.
Shane is a product development expert, and advisor and mentor to many start-ups in Canada and the US. He is also a frequent guest speaker in the start-up community, a 3 time Quora top writer, and his writing on AI, wearable tech, and technology markets has been published in Tech Crunch, Forbes, the Huffington Post, and Inc.
